Flu vaccine eligibility and booking windows

NHS flu vaccination is offered during seasonal campaign periods. Some eligible patients can be vaccinated from 1 September, while most eligible adult groups can be vaccinated from 1 October. Appointments may be offered until 31 March, subject to NHS guidance, eligibility, vaccine supply, and pharmacy appointment availability.

From 1 September
  • Pregnant women.
  • A small number of other adults may be advised to have a flu vaccine from 1 September following clinical assessment, for example before starting immunosuppressive treatment.
From 1 October
  • People aged 65 years and over.
  • People aged 18 to under 65 years in a clinical risk group.
  • People in long-stay residential care homes.
  • Carers in receipt of carer’s allowance, or main carers of an elderly or disabled person.
  • Close contacts of immunocompromised people.
  • Eligible frontline social care workers without an employer-led occupational health scheme.
Children’s flu vaccines

Children may be eligible under the NHS flu programme, but children’s flu vaccination is not currently bookable through Five Ways Pharmacy. Please check with your GP surgery, school vaccination team, or NHS guidance for the most suitable route.
